Subject: SAVE LIVES GET VOTES

What is the purpose of car, truck and SUV crash point standards, if you can jump on a motorcycle without a helmet and die anyway?  It seems kinda silly to have all these safety requirements in cars but not require motorcyclists to wear a helmet.  In a car you have all those bumpers, roll bars and sheet metal to protect you plus seat belts and air bags.  On a motorcycle you only have a helmet if you choose to wear it.  The Illinois state law for mandatory helmets needs to be reinstated.

Subject: mandatory helmet law?

Mr. Durbin,
Why did Illinois do away with a mandatory helmet law but make seatbelts mandatory?  I am for both.  But to me it doesn't make sense that a motor vehicle that can easily reach speeds in excess of 170 MPH, no safety helmet is required but a seat belt is mandatory in a vehicle that can reach possibly 125 MPH that has a roll cage around it.  I am writing because I lost a friend last night whom chose to not wear a helmet and he died of a severe head injury.  If the penalty were 150.00 or higher fine, he may have wore his helmet.  No blame can be pointed at anyone for his death.  But maybe a another life can be saved by a mandatory helmet law.  I hope this reaches the powers that could make that happen.
